It
was mid november and i'd just got back from the NEC bike show,
spent the day looking at fantastic new bikes, shaking hands with
biking stars and having my picture taken with beautiful young
ladies!
I had just re-mortgaged the house and cashed in my endowment's,
i knew i should've payed it off the mortgage but what the heck
you only live once. But what bike would i spend my cash on. At
the time i had a sv650s, beautiful bike that i couldnt really
fault, apart from poor quality finish on some parts. It was great
fun to ride and i was seriously thinking about buying one of the
newer models that are coming out in january. So i went straight
to the suzuki stand and well.. i didnt like it.. too pointy. I
like my bikes like my women, with a few curves!
So
it was onto the kawasaki stand and the new zx6r mmm a beautiful
bike specially in blue , noted it down on my short list.. Then
onto the aprillia stand looking at rsv mille's very nice.. untill
i got the insurance quote at nearly £1000 tptf!! Next it
was the triumph stand and the new triumph daytona 600. God i love
this bike its really looks the dogs dangies. "when can i
put a deposit down?" i asked. "not untill march next
year" i was told... dammit!
Ive
always liked triumphs and zombie will tell you all ive always
had a thing for the tt600, just the bad press reports about poor
engine respose and styling has put me off abit. So just over a
week later I found myself in my local triumph shop with intentions
on trying to leave my name on a list for the new daytona.. walked
into the showroom and there it was.. a metallic blue tt600. It
was love at first sight, and the price tag helped too, at £5495
it was at least £1500 cheaper than the new daytona and zx6.
Then i heard the familiar "can i help you sir?" from
the salesman. A brief chat and he offered that i try the demonstrator
they had sitting outside.. how could i refuse! So a hour later
i was back with crash helmet and leathers and off i went for a
test ride. It rode as good as it looked and there was no throttle
hesitation the press always kept going on about. An hour later
i was back at the shop. Without even seeing my bike i was offered
a good deal and they offered to put a grab rail on the bike in
the price. That was good enough for me and i put down my £100
deposit.
A
week later i picked up my first brand new bike for 12 years, the
last new bike i had was a yamaha tzr125 and that was blue too
funnily enough. I carefully rode it home and already i noticed
something not quite right, a funny buzzy vibration coming from
under the petrol tank, nothing serious, just sounded like something
touching.. hmmmm. I stopped off at my dads on the way to show
off and he noticed something else, a distortion in the silencer
where the bracket welds on.. bugger! so a quick phonecall back
to the dealer who quickly offered to swap the silencer over if
i went back in the afternoon and they would look at the vibration.
I had a few hours to kill so next over to zombies house to show
off some more ... "hi, is wayne in?" " no, he's
just popped out. He will be back in a minute tho if you want to
wait?" A few minutes later zombie turns up with his brother
and announces he's just bought a triumph too! So i run him back
to the shop on the back of the tt600 so he can pick up his triumph
sprint and then i followed him back to his, followed by a quick
go on the sprint. Nice bike, loads of torque.. most of you know
the rest , just dont let your boss ride your bike!
Took
the tt back in the afternoon, after waiting a few minutes the
mechanic came out with my silencer and a new one. both had the
same distortion.. then we looked at 5 other tt's in the showroom,
all the same. So not much i can do about that i guess. Then they
took my bike out for a ride for about 15 minutes and came back
saying the vibration was nothing to worry about and if it hasnt
gone away by the first service they would strip it down to find
out what it was.. That didnt really fill me with confidence and
its still there 200 miles later.
