My partner and I keep a few different reptiles including snakes. We breed corn snakes non commercially and have a few to re-home them. We are offering corn snakes to those interested. They make ideal reptiles for those who have never owned one before as they require little maintenance compared to most mammals. They do still require attention so that they are accustomed to human contact.
After the initial set up cost, which would be approximately £100 (going on brand new prices however most equipment is easy to pick up second hand) they are very cheap to maintain and feed. They are not at all dangerous. I have never been bitten by corn snakes, Newborns of most breeds will nip you (not even enough to break the skin) when first handled until they are accustomed to the fact that you are not a food or a threat, but the all snakes we re home have been kept for 6 months and fed weekly, during this time they quickly learn not to nip and have become good instinctive feeders.
Although I said we do this non commercially we do ask for an appropriate price for each snake as it gives us a sign of reassurance that the prospective owner is committed. We also ask what equipment will be used and feeding routines will be followed to ensure owners have done their own research. They will grow up to around 4ft in length and can live up to 15 years.
My partner is well experienced in reptile care and before being incapacitated worked in the reptile industry, and we would be happy to advise and support anyone interested in taking on a snake. Photos can be provided.
