I think Windows will let you "downgrade" Vista to XP, cos so many people don't like it.

Sounds like you need a 4 pin molex to SATA power adaptor.

You can get PC's with either option now, some companies will send a downgrade package, HP/Compaq wont, all they offered me where links to the drivers.. which weren't for my PC so i found out last night! really annoying seeing as the network wouldn't work to get online via XP
They say XP with be maintained and upgraded until 2010. that really shows what a dead duck Vista is dunnit

Billy M
yeah i think everyones getting too savvy for them now and their not grabbing at the latest gizmo anymore.

i have in the last 6months migrated my entire home network from xp to vista, (roughly 15machines) all in all im mighty impressed with vista, all the bad press is exactly the same as when xp came out, yes it took some time for the hardware and software support to come, but again it was the same with xp. the biggest problem microsoft have with vista is education. teach the users and developers how to use and write for it and there wont be any problems.

what 3d software are you using and what version?

as to your adaptor. im all but certain i have a spare one arround here somewhere. i will have a dig for you this eve or tomorow and get back to you. failing that, take a print of that pic to maplin wink1.gif

I'm using TrueSpace 6.6.. it appears to be DirectX10 issues but the Latest TS wont work either thats even more unstable.. i cant run TS in DirectX mode, its just fecks up in openGL i have to run wire frame editor and it crashes using Raytrace rendering, i can't use toon shaders.. i also have problems with Bryce with drop down menu's not working, it crashes doing panoramic renders or multiple renders to disc.. the only program that works is 3D Studio Max but thats beyond my budget of nill

I don't play many games but most randomly crash..

I've turned off all the Vista BS (that i know of), TS is running compatabilty mode etc.. its also installed in C's root not program files
it really p*ss's me off, before i was using a pc with a crappy 64 meg video card and the only problem was it was slow rendering.. this is 3 times the pc that ever was and i can do next to bugger all lol

I think i sent the plugs with that hard drive you got of me.. if i didn't.. well i must have em here.. somewhere Oo1.gif

As I understand it, all the large OEM manufacturers will supply XP discs if you ask them (and pay for them). I've certainly got a set out of Lenovo, and a friend of mind got a set from HP/Compaq. The HP ones were about £45 I think, but turned his new laptop from a stinking pile of sh!t into a decent machine.

Oh, and Wyntr... 15 machines in your home network? What the hell? I have 5, and I think *I'm* bad! lbhh.gif
NigeC
we only have 3 PC's networked.. love to know why you have 15 lol
Billy M
ooh2.gif 15 PC's! ooh2.gif have you no furnature in your house? lbhh.gif

You clearly have neither ears or an electricity meter! Have you never heard of VMWare. Run lots of servers on one box. Unless you need the horsepower, but even then...
wyntrblue
electric bill isnt to bad and certainly better than it was when i was crunching for seti in a big way. there are also meny advantages to having the rack in the loft where it cant be heard :P

vmware is all well n good but isnt suited for the kind of work i have my machines do wink1.gif
